Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data Paqet collects, why, who else handles it, how long it is kept, and how you can see it, change it or have it deleted.

1. Who runs this

Paqet is a community pack review site for Etterna, run by Martzi as an individual. Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) I am the person responsible for your data. You can contact me by email at dourcharting@gmail.com or on Discord (dancing_kasha).

2. What information is collected

When you log in. The site checks that you own an EtternaOnline forum account. You are given a short code and put it in the Paqet field of your forum profile for a moment. The site's server reads that field on your public forum profile once to find the code. The site does not ask for or store your forum password, and it does not keep the text of your profile. It stores your forum username (with the capitalisation the forum uses), the date you first verified, and the time you last agreed to the rules, which is updated every time you log in.

What you add.

• an avatar image and a bio, if you choose to add them
• whether you have made your profile private
• ratings and reviews, which can use markdown and can include links and images from other sites
• replies to reviews, and comments on profiles
• the packs you favourite, and the packs, charters and people you follow
• packs you mark as lamped, which are shown on your profile and as a Lamped label on your review
• favourite charts you add to a review (up to five, as plain text)
• the reviews and replies you like, which others see as your avatar and name in the list of who liked something
• threads you have muted, so you get no notifications from them
• lists you make, each with a title, a description, and your own note on each entry, and the username of anyone you credit as a helper on a list
• collections you make from your own lists, each with a title and a description
• the lists you like or follow
• the accounts you have blocked
• which notifications you have cleared, and when you last checked them
• reports you file about other content, with the reason you give
• feedback and bug reports you send to the admins. A bug report also stores the page you say it happened on, what you expected, and your browser's identification text (the "user agent", which names your browser and operating system)
• an unban appeal and its reason, if you ever submit one

Packs and charters. If you add a pack or a charter, it is shown publicly with your username as the person who added it, once an admin approves it. To add a pack you give a link to its page on StepMania Online or EtternaOnline. The site's server reads that page to check the pack's name and song count. The name, the link and the song count are stored with the pack. A short record of the check (your username, the name and the link) is kept so the pack can be added. It is deleted when the pack is added, and an unused one expires after thirty minutes and is cleared out soon after.

What admins record. Admins can reply to your feedback, change its status, and write notes about it that only admins can read. Admins can also vote yes or no on feedback, and those votes are seen only by admins. Admins can give your account badges. If your account is restricted or banned, the site records that, the reason, and which admin did it. Reports other people file about you are kept with the name of the person who filed them and the reason they gave. Admins can also mark an account as trusted, which relaxes the limits on how often it can post, and this is not shown to anyone else. When an admin approves or rejects a pack, a charter, or a credit you added, the site keeps a short notice for you, with the reason for a rejection, until you clear it. Admin actions such as approvals, edits, removals, report outcomes, and bans are kept in an activity log that only admins can read, which stores short facts such as names and statuses and not the text of reviews or bios. Admins also see daily totals, such as how many reviews were added, and a rough count of recent logins, without names.

Technical information. The services that host Paqet may log technical details such as your IP address when you load a page. To stop abuse, the site also briefly records that an account or IP address, or an IP address together with a forum username when someone logs in, performed a given kind of action (adding a pack, writing a review, filing a report and so on), so it can limit how often that action is repeated. No content is stored in this record, only the fact and the time of the action, and it is cleared automatically after a day.

3. What is public and what is not

Unless you make your profile private, anything you put on your profile or post on the site is public, including to people who are not logged in: your username, avatar, bio, badges, the date you verified, your reviews, replies and comments, your favourites, and who you follow and who follows you.

If you make your profile private, everyone else can see only your avatar and username. People you follow can also see your bio, badges, the date you verified, your follower counts, your friends and the comments on your profile. Only your friends, meaning people you follow who follow you back, can see your reviews, favourites, lamps, lists, collections, follows, and followers, and the replies other people left on your reviews. Admins can see everything. Your reviews still count towards a pack's score and rating, the same as before, they just cannot be read by anyone else. Replies you write on other people's reviews and comments you leave on other people's profiles stay public, since they are posted in a shared space. You can switch this on or off in your account settings at any time. It is enforced by the database, not only by what the pages show.

Lists and collections are public unless your profile is private, and then only your friends can see them. Someone you credit on a list is shown on it only after they accept, and they can remove themselves at any time. The list of who liked a review or reply shows names, while a like on a list is only counted. Which lists you like or follow, and which threads you muted, can be seen only by you.

These are not public: the accounts you have blocked (only you can read that list, and the blocked account is not told), your notification settings, the reports you file (visible to admins and to you), the feedback and bug reports you send (visible to admins and to you, together with the replies an admin chose to show you; admin notes and votes are never shown to you), and restriction, ban and appeal records (visible to admins). Other people may notice that a restricted or banned account's reviews and replies have disappeared, but the site does not publish why.

4. How your information is used, and why

It is used to run the site: to log you in without repeating the verification every time, to show your reviews, favourites and profile to other visitors, to tell you inside the site when something you follow changes, to moderate the site, and to keep abuse down. The site sends no email, shows no advertising and runs no analytics or tracking scripts.

The legal basis for this is legitimate interests: running a community review site and keeping it safe. That includes keeping a record of bans, so that a ban is still in place if the account is deleted and made again. Where you choose to add something optional, such as an avatar or a bio, the basis is your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time by removing it.

Your data is not sold or given to advertisers. I would rather jump off a cliff into jagged rocks head-first than sell any data to third parties.

5. Who else handles your data

• Supabase runs the database, logins, image storage and the small server programs the site uses. The database is in their EU region (Ireland).
• Neocities hosts the pages themselves.
• The EtternaOnline community forum is contacted by the site's server when you log in, to read your public profile.
• StepMania Online and EtternaOnline are contacted by the site's server when you add a pack or type a pack link into the add pack form. They see a request for that pack's page from the server. They do not receive your username or your IP address.
• Other sites hold any image or link someone puts in a review, reply or bio. When your browser loads an image from another site, that site can see your IP address. Paqet does not copy or proxy those images, and what the image shows can change after it was posted.

Supabase and Neocities are US companies, so some processing may happen outside the UK. Each of them handles data under its own terms and data protection commitments.

6. Cookies and local storage

Paqet does not use cookies. When you log in, a session token is stored in your browser's local storage so you stay logged in between visits. This token is not sent to any third party and is removed when you log out. A small note about notifications you have just clicked is kept in your browser's session storage for about a minute, so the page you land on does not show them again. A draft of a review you have not sent is kept in your browser's local storage until you send or discard it, and it is not sent to the site.

7. How long data is kept

• Your account, and everything you added to it, is kept until you delete it or delete your account.
• Reports, restrictions, bans and appeals are kept indefinitely. A ban has to outlast the account it was placed on, otherwise deleting the account and making a new one would undo it, so these records are kept after an account is deleted. If you think a record about you is wrong, contact me and I will look at it.
• Feedback and bug reports are kept until an admin deletes them. If you delete your account, they stay but are no longer linked to your name, so they can still be acted on. Admin replies, notes and votes stay with them.
• Lists, collections, likes, lamps, muted threads, and approval and rejection notices are kept until you delete them or delete your account.
• Entries in the admin activity log are deleted after 180 days.
• Records of the kind of action an account performed, used to limit abuse, are cleared after a day.
• The record of a pack check expires after thirty minutes.
• A login code expires after ten minutes. Codes that were never used are deleted automatically, at the latest a few hours after they expire.
• Hosting providers keep their own logs for their own periods.

8. Your rights, and deleting your account

You can change or remove your avatar, bio, reviews, replies and comments yourself at any time. You can permanently delete your account from the Account Settings page while logged in. This removes your reviews, replies, comments, favourites, lamps, likes, lists, collections, follows, blocks, notification settings and your login. Packs or charters you added stay on the site, but are no longer linked to your account. A report you filed stays on file with the reporter shown as deleted, and feedback you sent stays on file with your name removed, and reports, restrictions, bans and appeals stay on file as well (see section 7), so deleting your account does not lift a ban.

You also have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to have it corrected, to ask me to restrict how it is used, to object to its use, and to have it deleted, except for the moderation records described in section 7. Contact me using the details above and I will reply within one month. A copy of your data is sent as a single file you can open in any text editor. You can also download a copy yourself at any time under Your data in account settings. If you would rather I delete your data manually, say so and I will do that.

If you are not happy with how I handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

9. Children

Paqet is for people who can use the EtternaOnline community forum under its own rules. It is not aimed at children, and I do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

10. Changes to this policy

When this policy changes I update the date at the top of the page. If this policy updates for any reason other than I am being forced at gunpoint to update it (Or the law changes), please ping me and complain, harass me, bully me, insult all my scoreposts, and boycott my files.
